NALIS TO HOLD STORY TELLING COMPETITION

The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) is inviting all schools in Trinidad and Tobago, to take part in the 10th Anniversary of the Texaco sponsored National Storytelling Competition, which will be conducted at libraries throughout the library system, between October 16 – November 17, 2000.

The competition started in 1990 and is open to primary school students between the ages 6 – 9 and 10 – 13 years. The Ministry of Education and the relevant divisional heads in the various divisions have already been approached to give their support and authorisation for the schools participation.

Schools have been sent all the necessary documentation concerning the competition, and it is hoped that the response would be prompt as Preliminaries will commence on October 16th and run until October 20 throughout the country. Zonal Finals in the south, east and north will take place between October 30 – November 3, with the Grand Finals coming off on November 17, at Eastern Credit Union, La Joya Complex, St. Joseph.

Workshops for participating students and the teachers will be conducted at various libraries between October 2 – 6. Teachers in the respective educational districts will be notified of these workshops. Prizes will be awarded to winners at the Preliminary, Zonal Finals and Final Stages. Book and cash prizes will be awarded to all the contestants in the Grand Finals. Schools from which the first place winners in the two (2) categories in each zone emerge, will receive book prizes of a substantial value. Schools winning in each category will receive the Texaco Challenge Trophy.
