SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICES UNIT - SSLSU

Formally established in 2009, the Secondary School Library Services Unit (SSLSU) manages the human resources for the School Library Media Centres (SLMCs) in the government secondary schools. The Unit comprises one Librarian III per educational district – 7 districts in total – to assist the SLMCs with their core functions of providing curriculum support via print and e-resources, and the teaching of Library and Literacy skills. The SSLSU also provides training to its Staff for continued high standards of performance to ensure professional implementation and delivery of programmes designed to promote lifelong learning.

PRIMARY SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICES UNIT - PSLSU

NALIS Strategic Plan 2008-13 proposed to establish library services to primary schools. Thereafter, PSLSU was established in 2009 with a single librarian at the helm of the unit. At present, there are 10 members of staff, comprising 6 professionals and 4 paraprofessionals who serve approximately 483 primary schools in the 7 Educational districts in Trinidad. Currently, library personnel who provide on-site support at schools are either Teachers, On -the -Job Trainees or Volunteers.
