SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICES NOW EDUCATIONAL LIBRARY SERVICES DIVISION

The School Library Services Unit located at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, McBean, Couva was first set up in 1978 to promote and coordinate the development of the libraries in sixth form schools. Over the years, this mandate was expanded to include a service to all secondary schools. In 1998 with the formation of the National Library and Information System Authority – NALIS the School Library Services Unit expanded to become the Educational Library Services Division. The Division continues to provide professional services to promote and develop a literate society through training, collection development, consultation and development of standards personnel, resources, furniture and equipment for School Library Media Centres. The Educational Library Services Division currently supervises the school libraries in 483 primary schools and over 133 secondary schools. The Division is also responsible for library services in UNESCO and 3 corporate libraries in the Ministry of Education.

RUDRANATH CAPILDEO LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE (RCLRC) LIBRARY

The Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre (RCLRC) Library is organised to meet the information needs of professionals in the education sector of Trinidad and Tobago. It is geared towards encouraging tertiary research in all aspects of education among the Ministry of Education's staff. However, its services extend further into the community, drawing users from the teacher training colleges, the University of the West Indies, other institutions and libraries, as well as members of the general public.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION RESEARCH AND EVALUATION LIBRARY

This library started as a small collection in the Division of Research and Evaluation at the Ministry of Education. It was subsequently developed to serve the information needs of the Honourable Minister, the Permanent Secretaries, and the Directors and their staff, at the Ministry's head office at Alexandra Street, St. Clair.

TVET DIVISION LIBRARY

This library is located at the Technical Vocational Education and Training Division at 45 Pembroke Street, Port of Spain. It was developed to serve the information needs of the curriculum officers and teachers in the various subject areas, as well as those of trainee teachers of the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute. It is supervised by the librarian of the Department of Education Research and Evaluation.

UNESCO DOCUMENTATION CENTRE LIBRARY

The Unesco Documentation Center's collection consists of multi-lingual materials in both print and multi-media formats. The collection include material in the field of education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information. The library is equipped with two public access terminals for Internet access. Services include research assistance, referrals and outreach programmes.
