HOW TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are offered to Trinidad and Tobago nationals by the Government and countries in the Commonwealth and the Organization of American States, among others.

Advertisement of Scholarships

Scholarships are advertised via the electronic media, the newspapers, circular memoranda addressed to all Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments, the Trinidad and Tobago Gazette and Diplomatic Missions abroad.

Procedures for obtaining Scholarships

An applicant interested in applying for a scholarship must visit the Selection Section, Training Division, Scholarship and Advance Training Section, 55-57, St. Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain. Here, the applicant is interviewed in relation to the eligibility requirements for the scholarship. Provided the applicant is considered eligible, an application form is given to him/her for completion. In certain circumstances, application forms are given to persons acting on behalf of the applicants who are unable to visit the Training Division. For example, an application form could be collected for an applicant who lives abroad.

Following the submission of the completed application form and supporting documents, an acknowledgment is forwarded to the applicant.

The applications for scholarship awards are considered by a Special Committee set up by government. Suitable applicants are selected for interviews.

On the basis of the interviews, the Committee nominates an applicant or applicants for consideration for awards. These nominations are subject to the approval of Cabinet.

Letters are then sent to the nominee informing him/her about his/her nomination for the relevant scholarship. Later, the nominees are informed whether the scholarship was awarded to him/her.

Being nominated for a Scholarship offered by countries other than Trinidad and Tobago does not necessarily mean that you are awarded the scholarship. Your selection for a scholarship is finally determined by the country concerned.
