BRENDA HUGHES

By Judy Stone

(1988)

BRENDA HUGHES is another product of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop (whose pervasive influence throughout today's theatre scene is not always recognised).

As a young actress, with a gist for comedy, Brenda created - with Stephanie King - the role of Tisbea in Walcott's "Joker of Seville". As an established producer, she was responsible for the recent revival of "Joker" at the Central Bank Auditorium.

Brenda played in several Workshop productions, and in more recent years has appeared in such works as "Agnes of God", "We Can't Pay, We Won't Pay" and "Beef, No Chicken".

She is the founder of Arbee Productions, which staged "Dream on Monkey Mountain" at the Astor in 1985.

Her next project is, so I'm told, a double bill of Strindberg/Roderick Walcott, scheduled for the end of this month.
